The GU Patrol's factory tail lights
look every year of their age.
look every year of their age.
Smoked LED tail lights for the Nissan GU Patrol Wagon Series 4–8 (2004–2016). Full LED output across every function, smoked lens, sealed housing. Bolt into factory mounts. Australian-spec GUs need a quick bumper bar tap for brake, indicator and tail — the reverse light is plug and play. Guide included, about an hour total.
GU Patrol owners don't run half-measures.
Cracked lenses, faded housings, dim incandescent output — the factory GU lights look exactly like what they are. Sealed against dust and moisture, UV-stable, and backed by a 12-month warranty from our own NSW team, not a third party. The bumper bar tap is a one-off job, done for the life of the vehicle after that.
What's different from factory
Smoked lens — aggressive OEM+ look, factory mounts
Same housing shape and mounting as factory — no drilling. The smoked finish modernises the rear end without looking out of place on the GU's body style. Works across all GU colours and builds.
Full LED — brake, tail, reverse and indicators
Every light function upgraded to LED. Brighter brake lights, faster response than incandescent globes, no bulbs to replace for the life of the vehicle.
Sealed housing — built for Australian conditions
Waterproof and dustproof housings. UV-stable lenses won't yellow or crack in Australian sun the way factory plastic does after 10–20 years. Vibration-tested for off-road use.
Installation — about 1 hour total
Plug & Play
Reverse Light
Connects directly to the factory internal loom plug. Unplug old, plug in new.
Bumper Bar Tap
Brake, Tail & Indicator
Australian-spec GUs route these through the bumper bar lights, not the body loom — a basic tap, covered step-by-step in the guide.
Basic hand tools. No workshop needed.
1
Remove factory tail lights — a few bolts per side, accessible from inside the boot. Unclip the factory reverse light connector.
2
Connect the reverse light plug — plugs directly into the factory internal connector.
3
Tap into the bumper bar lights — run wires from the bumper bar to the new tail lights for brake, indicator and tail. Guide shows exactly which wires to use.
4
Bolt into factory mounts. Test brake, indicator, tail and reverse. Done.
Step-by-step guide included. Message us before or during install if needed.

Common questions
Why does the bumper bar tap exist, and how hard is it?
Australian-delivered GU Patrols route brake, tail and indicator through the rear bumper bar lights rather than the body tail light loom — a factory design that applies to virtually every Australian-spec Series 4–8. The reverse light uses the standard internal loom plug, so that's true plug and play. The rest is a basic wiring tap — straightforward if you've wired 4WD accessories before, still doable with the guide if you haven't. Most owners do it in under an hour. Message us if you want to talk through any step first.
Will these fit my Series 1–3 GU (pre-2004) or a Ute/Cab Chassis?
No to both — Series 1–3 and the Ute/Cab Chassis use different tail light housings. This product is for the Wagon body style, Series 4–8 only (from April 2004). Check your compliance plate for the build date if you're near the cutoff, or message us and we'll confirm.
I tow a trailer — will this affect my trailer indicators?
No — trailer wiring connects to the factory trailer plug, a separate circuit from the tail light wiring. Replacing the tail lights doesn't affect trailer indicator operation.
Will I get hyperflash or indicator errors?
No — the GU Patrol predates the canbus systems that cause hyperflash and error codes on newer vehicles. LED indicators on the GU work without resistors and without errors.
