The GU Patrol's factory tail lights
look every year of their age.
look every year of their age.
Smoked LED tail lights for the Nissan GU Patrol Wagon Series 1–3 (1998–2003). Full LED output across every function, smoked lens, sealed housing. Bolt into factory mounts. Reverse light connects via the factory internal loom plug where fitted; brake, tail and indicator functions connect via a straightforward tap into the existing wiring — guide included, about an hour total.
GU Patrol owners don't run half-measures.
Cracked lenses, faded housings, dim incandescent output — the factory GU lights look exactly like what they are. This is a complete replacement: smoked housing, full LED across every function, sealed against dust and moisture. The wiring is a one-off job that takes less than an hour — after that, it's done for the life of the vehicle.
What's different from factory
Smoked lens — aggressive OEM+ look
Same housing shape and mounting as factory. The smoked finish modernises the rear end without looking out of place on the GU's body style — purposeful, not overdone. Works across all GU colours and builds.
Full LED — brake, tail, reverse and indicators
Every light function upgraded to LED. Brighter brake lights, faster response than incandescent globes, no bulbs to replace for the life of the vehicle.
Sealed housing — built for Australian conditions
Waterproof and dustproof housings. UV-stable lenses won't yellow or crack in Australian sun the way the factory plastic does after 20+ years. Vibration-tested for off-road use.
Everything else
Uses factory mounting points — no drilling
No bulbs to replace — LED modules integrated
UV-resistant lens — won't yellow or haze
Left and right included — complete pair
"These are going on a vehicle I use hard."
GU owners use their vehicles. Sealed housings resist the dust, vibration and water that kills cheap units on corrugated tracks. UV-stable lenses won't fog or yellow. 12-month warranty backed by our NSW-based team — not a third party. If something fails, we deal with it.
Wiring — what to expect
Plug & Play (where fitted)
Reverse Light
Where your GU has the factory internal loom plug, it connects directly — unplug old, plug in new, nothing extra required for the reverse function.
Simple Tap
Brake, Tail & Indicator
If your GU doesn't have the internal plug for a given function, it's a straightforward tap into the existing wiring. The guide shows exactly which wires and how to run them cleanly — about 1 hour total.
Why the difference? Wiring setups vary between individual GU Patrols depending on how the vehicle was built and optioned. If the internal loom plug is present for a function, it's plug and play. If not, it's a basic tap — easy either way, and covered step-by-step in the included guide.
Installation — about 1 hour total
Basic hand tools. No workshop needed.
1
Remove factory tail lights — a few bolts per side, accessible from inside the boot. Unclip the factory reverse light connector if fitted.
2
Connect the reverse light — plugs directly into the factory internal connector where fitted, or a simple tap if not.
3
Wire in brake, indicator and tail — run wires to the new tail lights. Guide shows exactly which wires to use and how to route them cleanly.
4
Bolt into factory mounts. Test brake, indicator, tail and reverse. Done.
Step-by-step guide included. Message us before or during install if needed.

Common questions
How hard is the wiring, really?
It's a basic wiring job — plug and play where the internal loom plug is fitted, or a simple tap into existing wires where it isn't. If you've wired accessories on a 4WD before, this is straightforward. If you haven't, it's still doable with the guide — most GU owners do it in under an hour. Message us if you want to talk through any step before you start.
Will these fit my Series 4–8 GU (2004 onward)?
No — Series 4–8 uses a different tail light housing shape. This product is for Series 1–3 only (1998–2003). Check your compliance plate for the build date if you're near the cutoff, or message us and we'll confirm.
I have a GU Ute or Cab Chassis — will these fit?
No — GU Ute and Cab Chassis use a different tail light housing. This product is for the Wagon body style only.
I tow a trailer — will this affect my trailer indicators?
No — trailer wiring connects to the factory trailer plug, a separate circuit from the tail light wiring. Replacing the tail lights doesn't affect trailer indicator operation.
Will I get hyperflash or indicator errors?
No — the GU Patrol predates the canbus systems that cause hyperflash and error codes on newer vehicles. LED indicators on the GU work without resistors and without errors.
